The Amazing Human Body Display is still on at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre until 16 July.
Friday night is the opening night of Resurrection at the Hip-E Club in Leederville. Lots of alternative rock music. It will be on every Friday night in July, and if it’s a success it will continue.
More music, but of a different kind, Mundaring Performing Arts Society have their monthly concert at Mundaring Weir Hotel (I know, I’m stretching Perth’s borders a bit…)
For more gigs throughout the weekend, check out the right sidebar (down a bit).
Saturday is Pink Lady Day at Belmont Race Course, but the Luncheon is fully booked, and to be honest, I don’t know what else the day entails…
From Sunday to Wednesday there’s a beautiful display of flowers at the Perth Town Hall, as Perth’s Interflora designers compete in State Championships, from 10am. Also a special display at Forrest Chase.
Sunday also sees the start of the NAIDOC Week Celebrations in Fremantle (National Aboriginal Islander Day of Celebration). There will be all sorts of things happening at the Fremantle Town Hall from 11am, including a smoking ceremony, guest speakers and dancing.
A special mention for the RTR Jazz on a Winter’s Night Fundraiser on Monday night at the Hyde Park Hotel. Get there very early if you want to be able to get in.
Also, the Perth City Winter Arts Festival is now in full swing, see the full program at the website. I still need to go and see that Bunyip Exhibition at the State Library….
But first, on Friday night we are going to an exhibition opening at Spectrum Project Space in Northbridge (for ECU arts students). This exhibition will be open to the public Wednesday to Saturday, from 2pm till 6pm, 1 July - 22 July.
If you love live comedy, you could see it from Tuesday through to Saturday every week in Perth.
Every Tuesday:
Shapiro Tuesdays at Lazy Susan’s - upstairs at the Brisbane Hotel, Highgate
A club for new and established comedians to come down and hangout, try new bits, polish their favourites, and just have a laugh…. $5 entry. From 8.30pm.Every Wednesday:
The Laugh Resort Comedy Club - Upstairs in the ‘Glasshouse’ of The Brass Monkey, Northbridge.
The show runs from 8.30pm till about 11pm, doors open at 8pm. Price is usually $10 ($8 concession), except the occasional special show.
The Laugh Resort is a not-for-profit organisation, but most of the comedians are professionals that also perform other gigs (see below) and are available for special (including corporate) functions.
Every Thursday:
Comedy Lounge - 509 Charles Hotel, North Perth.
Shows run from about 8 to 10pm. Price is usually $12 or $10 concession and could be up to $25 if a big national or international act is on.
The Comedy Lounge offers different types of packages for special functions.
Every Friday:
Stand up comedy at Lazy Susan’s Comedy Den, upstairs at the Brisbane Hotel, Highgate.
Show starts around 8.30pm. A few more dollars ($15/12), but it is Friday.
Every Saturday:
Big HOO-HAA (improvised comedy) also at Lazy Susan’s.
The Big HOO-HAA has been going since 2002, and the two teams of comedians use audience suggestions to create improvised sketches, in the style of shows like ‘Who’s Line Is It Anyway?’ This is also from 8.30pm, for $15/12.
The Big HOO-HAA can also perform at special functions, including fundraisers.
Also read ‘The Big HOO-HAA - every Sat night‘, a post I wrote in September 2006 after I attented the Big HOO HAA for the first time.
Special events:
Other than these regular shows, there are often special comedy nights, or big name comedians visiting Perth. I will post about these when they are announced, so keep an eye on the comedy category!
If you have anything to add, please leave a comment!
Once again when went to Mojo’s in North Fremantle to see our friends Ramble and the Sleepers play. They were supporting Simon London & the Spirits, who we were very impressed with (a lot more rock and less roots than we expected)! Simon London & the Spirits were headed off for a national tour, and will be back playing in Perth at the Newport Hotel on 30 July 06.
At the start of the evening ‘Empty State’ played, they are a very young Perth band who I think we will be seeing more of.
Crimson were going to finish the night off with an acoustic set, but we didn’t stick around for that, we’d had enough action for a weeknight! :D
Mojo’s are open 7 days a week, and there is live music most nights.
In July there will be stand up comedy on 3 Tuesdays (the 4th, 11th and 25th), and as part of the Perth International Film Festival Revelation, there will be S.P.L.I.F. on July 18: Screening Perth’s Local Independent Films, combined with live music by The Ben Gray Band.

Kylie has rescheduled her Showgirl Homecoming Tour.
The concerts will now be on 4, 5 and 7 December 06.
There will be a very small number of tickets available for these shows going on sale from 9am on Wednesday 19 July, through BOCS Ticketing.
For more information about the rescheduled shows, and what to do if you already had tickets, also see the BOCS page.
When I first read that Elvis was coming to Perth I thought it would be an impersonator. Not so! Elvis will be performing on a huge video screen, and the music will be played live on stage by his former bandmates!
The Elvis Presley In Concert concept is to present an authentic as possible Elvis Presley concert. The producers edited together a collection of Elvis’ finest concert performances that exist on film and video and removed virtually all sound from the footage except for Elvis’ vocal.
All music heard in the concert production is performed live except for Elvis’ voice. On either side of the Elvis performance screen are screens that carry live action from the stage. From the first song it’s magic. You’re at a real Elvis concert.
Apparently this is Elvis’ first world tour ever, he only made it to Canada while he was alive!
It’s all happening at the Burswood Dome on Friday 6 October 2006.
Tickets go on sale Monday 26 June, from Ticketek. And it’s not cheap either; $75 - $149 depending on which reserve!
