New post for the 2007/2008 Outdoor Cinema season!

At this moment I know of the following outdoor cinema programs that will be happening this summer in Perth, 2006 and 2007. I will add others if I come across them. If you know of any, please leave a comment below!
Lotterywest Festival Films - Joondalup Pines Picture Garden and Somerville Auditorium at UWA - 4 December to 1 April 2007

Camelot Outdoor Cinema - Mosman park - 7 December to 14 February 2007
Camelot Outdoor Cinema is nestled in the beautiful gardens of the Art-Deco Memorial Hall in Mosman Park. The cinema features deckchair seating and some balcony cabaret style seating and has a fully licensed bar onsite.

Moonlight Cinema - King’s Park - 12 December to 11 March 2007
Moonlight is an outdoor cinema screening latest release, contemporary and classic films at Synergy Parkland in Kings Park and Botanic Gardens.

Luna Outdoor Cinema - Leederville - 14 December to 14 February 2007
The intimate and funky Luna Outdoor located in the heart of Leederville features a tropical garden setting and atmospheric lighting where you can enjoy your outdoor experience with stylish cafe tables and chairs and comfortable canvas deckchair seating.

Movies By Burswood - Burswood Parklands - 21 December to 14 April 2007
Movies by Burswood is Perth’s family outdoor cinema organised and run by a team of volunteers donating 100% of profits to charities seeking to improve the quality of life of children in a health or physical ability crisis.

Fremantle Outdoor Film Festival - Princess May Park - 2 to 24 February 2007
Each night, the best local shorts are screened prior to the features showcasing Australian talents both behind and in front of the lens. FOFF 2007 runs from Thursday 1 - Saturday 24 February and includes the popular ‘WASA Wednesdays’ showcasing the finalist entries in the 20th WA Screen Awards.

And I’ve just discovered the Galaxy Drive-in in Kingsley, which shows new release movies.
Weird Al Yankovic, American musician, satirist, parodist, accordionist, and television producer, will be performing at Burswood Theatre on Saturday 17 March 2007, for his ‘Straight Outta Lynwood Tour’.
Weird Al Yankovoc has had guest appearances in television shows such as The Simpsons and Behind the Music. His previous release, Poodle Hat, won a Grammy for Best Comedy Album. He is best known for his parodies of the biggest stars in the musical universe: Eminem, Nirvana, Madonna, Michael Jackson are just a few. Weird Al is known for such hilarious parodies as Fat, Eat It, I Think I’m A Clone Now, Money For Nothing/Beverly Hillbillies and more.
Tickets go on sale from Ticketek on 6 December.
Evanescence are touring Australia, and coming to Perth to perform at Challenge Stadium on Thursday 15 February 2007.

New post: New Years Day and the Perth Cup 2008

As I understand it, the Perth Cup is a horse race, but at the same time it’s a big social event like the Melbourne Cup. There are several marquees (tentLand) on the Ascot Race Course terrain, and in these you can socialise, eat, drink, watch a fashion parade, and maybe watch the Perth Cup as well (this doesn’t seem the main purpose of TentLand!).
For the first time this year, a rock concert is also part of the happenings, Side Track’d, which I wrote about here. It is a seperate event which needs a seperate ticket, but there is a ticket that will allow you to get into the concert AND a marquee, The Lounge Room.

Tickets to most tents are around $250….!! But that does usually include drinks for a few hours, food and some form of entertainment.
Apparently in previous years there was TentLand and Riverland, and there were about 18.000 people combined! This year there is only TentLand, and only about 14.000 tickets to be sold.
Perth Racing has the following to say:

General admission into Ascot for the Perth Cup (so not TentLand) is $30.
The Sunset Markets are on every Friday night this summer from 1 December to 23 March 2007 (excluding 22 December, 29 December and 5 January… so night quite every Friday!) in the cbd of Joondalup.
They feature market stalls, music, food, street performers and exhibitons.
Listen to live bands most weeks as you stroll through the markets, watch buskers, have a coffee, grab a bite to eat and soak up the festive atmosphere.

The markets are part of Joondalup’s free Summer in the City events, which also include the Scorcha Youth Music Festival, some concerts in February and March, and the Joondalup Festival at the end of March.
