The 20th UNIMA Congress and World Puppetry Festival comes to the Southern Hemisphere for the first time, and will be held in Perth in association with Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, from 2 to 12 April 2008.
A big part of this festival is the Million Puppet Project, a Guinness World Record attempt.
The exhibition of the puppets at the Perth Town Hall culminates on Carnival Day on Sunday 6 April, a free event with fun for all ages.
There are also many puppetry theatre productions to be seen throughout the week.
Imagine a million puppets in one big space… sock, hand, rod, finger, junk, glove, shadow, marionettes, and movable creations never seen before!
On April 6th 2008 this dream will become a reality when the Perth Concert Hall comes alive with puppets from across the globe for the ‘World’s Largest Puppet Display’!
A celebration of puppetry that includes aspects of dance, acting, circus and digital technologies.
See the UNIMA 2008 website for more details.
Update: What I forgot to mention specifically, is that Mr Squiggle is in town! As nickobec reports over at PerthNorg, there’s a special display at the State Library.
The annual Perth Medieval Fayre will be held at the Supreme Court Gardens from 10am to 5pm on Saturday 5 April 2008.
The Fayre is held suitably close to All Fools Day, a folk celebration that began to appear in Europe in the late Middle Ages.
A plethora of Perth’s medieval clubs will be on display showing off their various talents including historical European swordsmanship, dark ages combat, renaissance fencing and swashbuckling. The fayre is rich with traditions, full of exciting and thrilling misadventures, storytellers and tales, all set in a time where chivalry, grace and courtesy were a part of everyday life.
Entry is $5 and $3 for concession and for those in costume. Children under 13 are free.
See the WA Medieval Alliance website for more details.
