The Avon Descent is a two day, 134km race down the Avon and Swan Rivers (Northam to Perth) in a variety of paddle and power craft.
There are numerous spectator viewing points, and some festivals in the towns along the way and start and finish spots!

Toodyay International Food Festival – 10am to 4pm

Start Line - Northam - Ppower craft from 8.00am and paddlers from 8.50am.

Extracts Weir - Power craft from about 8.30am, paddlers from 10.30am.
Duidgee Park, Toodyay - excellent viewing point, commentary, Food Festival from 10 to 4.

City of Swan’s Family Fun Day - Sandalford Wines, Caversham - 11am to 3pm

City of Bayswater’s Finish Line Event - Riverside Gardens, Bayswater - 11am to 6pm

Best Vantage Points Day Two
Start Day 2 - Cobbler Pool -7:00am for paddle craft - 12:00pm for power craft.
Emu Falls - Paddlers from 7.30am, power craft from 12.15 pm.
Walyunga National Park - Paddlers from 10am, power craft from 1pm.
Bells Rapid - most popular. Shuttle bus from Brigadoon Equestrian Centre. Entry is $10 per vehicle.
Sandalford Winery - City of Swan Picnic in the Park with lots of entertaiment - Paddlers from about 11.30am and Power Boats from about 1.10pm.
Finish Line - Riverside Gardens, Bayswater - from 11.30am - lots of entertainment, screens, ‘community day’. Presentations commence at 4.00pm in the main marquee arena!

Avon Descent website

The Wave Rock Weekender, a small camping and music festival held at Wave Rock (a few hundred km’s east of Perth) is on again in 2008, held from Saturday 27 September to Monday 29 September (Queens Birthday public holiday).

The event also features a 24 hour cinema program, 24 hour food, a 50m round & 6m deep therapeutic salt pond where you can float like a cork without moving a muscle, incredible rock walks, some of Australia’s best stargazing and of course the authentic Aussie bush.
Wave Rock Weekender is……
- an authentic all-weekend, long-weekend experience.
- an intimate capacity 800 show set in and around the Wave Rock Caravan Park that the town let us take over for the weekend.
- a place where toilets, showers, food and bar access are never a problem
- not an English country garden festival or sports oval event – it’s in beautiful salty, scrubby, bushy Australia on the edge of the desert featuring; prehistoric rock formations, eerie salt plains, shiny salmon gums, wildflowers and big, big sky. Let the music bring it alive.

WestdaleWestdale Rock is being held again on Saturday 25 October 2008 in Westdale, which is located about an hour and a half east of Perth.

There will also be the WA Burnout Comp, Westdale Sand Drags, WA Tattoo Show, Wet tshirt competitions, Dancing girls between acts, etc!

Gates open at 7:00am on Saturday, and the last band performs at dawn on Sunday 26 October. There is overnight camping available, and it’s an outside concert.

Food available to buy, byo alcohol (no glass), 18+.

York Jazz FestivalThe annual York Jazz Festival is on again on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 October 2008, in the small town York, about 100kms east of Perth.

The festival has new organisers, and it’s become a bigger and better!

The transformation is complete! York Jazz & Soul Festival announces the best line-up of jazz talent ever assembled in Western Australia. The artist lineup offers international, national and local legends, masters, maestros and the best emerging jazz talent in Australia.

An agreement with the Shire of York sees control of the event being handed to Western Australian based festival and event maestros Supersonic Enterprises from 2008
The event is also picking the brains of WA’s potent jazz and music community through organizations such as JazzWA, Perth Jazz Society, Jazz Club of WA and Funk Club to ensure we identify and secure the best possible combination of local, national and international jazz and soul artists for the event.
