The Sunset Markets are on every Friday night this summer from 1 December to 23 March 2007 (excluding 22 December, 29 December and 5 January… so night quite every Friday!) in the cbd of Joondalup.
They feature market stalls, music, food, street performers and exhibitons.

Listen to live bands most weeks as you stroll through the markets, watch buskers, have a coffee, grab a bite to eat and soak up the festive atmosphere.

See the City of Joondalup website for a bit more information.

The markets are part of Joondalup’s free Summer in the City events, which also include the Scorcha Youth Music Festival, some concerts in February and March, and the Joondalup Festival at the end of March.

Just a while after writing a post about the Funk Club in Leederville on Friday nights, it has been announced that the Funk Club is also back in Fremantle!

On Saturday 14 October 2006 there will be a big party at the Swan Basement, Queen Victoria St, North Fremantle, the new location for the Funk Club in Freo.
It all kicks off at 8pm with the Chameleon Brass Band, Funk Club House Band, The Crux, Loco Ren, Charlie Bucket, Phil Cooker and DJ Sorted.

It is a New Orleans themed event with a Gumbo flavour and there will be prizes for best dressed.

Entry is $10 and $7 for members.

After that the Funk Club will be held at the Swan Basement every Saturday night! And of course at the Leederville Hotel every Friday night. All info at the Funk Club website.

Fremantle Village Arts MarketThe weekly Fremantle Village Art Markets are back!

Every Thursday, from 5 October to 26 April 2007, the markets will be held under the Moreton Bay Figs at picturesque King’s Square in the middle of Fremantle.
There will be more than 45 stalls, free lunch time concerts and free kids workshops.

The market will be open from 10am to 5.30pm, and stalls will be selling a large variety of wares, from aromatherapy, clothing and photography to jewellery, fruit and vegetables, toys and much more.

The lunch time concerts take place from 12.30 to 1.30pm, and will feature local and touring bands.

The free kids workshops will be held from 3.30 to 4.30pm (2.30 to 4.30 in school holidays), and involve crafty activities.

DSCN2001Last week I went to see the Big HOO HAA with friends. It’s on every Saturday night at Lazy Susan’s Comedy Den, upstairs at the Brisbane Hotel in Highgate (just north of Northbridge, along Beaufort Street). It’s improv comedy, in the style of ‘Who’s Line Is It Anyway?’ Two teams of comedians competing against each other, often going by audience suggestions.

You can book tickets via BOCS, or get there before 8pm and get your tickets at the door and go back downstairs to get a drink. The show starts at 8.30pm.
Apparently it’s a full house every week (it certainly was last week), so do make sure you book, or get there early. Tickets are $15, $12 concession.
As I said, it starts at 8.30pm. There’s two short breaks (well, there was when we went!), which means you can go downstairs to get a drink in you like, and it finishes around 10.30/11pm.

I was quite impressed with the Brisbane Hotel; an old building, but newly renovated. Very flash! Plenty of parking around the back (for a fee) and in the streets surrounding.

funkclubWe recently went to the Funk Club for the first time with friends and had a great time dancing the night away! I sometimes wonder how I have never heard of certain things in Perth, even if it’s being going for a while, and quite close to where I live (we lived in Mt Hawthorn last year)!!

The Funk Club is a weekly affair, held every Friday night upstairs at the Leederville Hotel at The Rosemount Hotel in North Perth.
It kicks off at 8pm, with the Funk Club House Band up first. Then there’s usually a guest band and dj.

The types of music that are played include funk, ska/reggae, jazz, fusion, hip-hop, world music, r&b and electronic forms of music.

Entry is $8, but if you become a member for $12, entry will only be $5.

The Rosemount Hotel is located at 459 Fitzgerald St, North Perth - map
